JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary: Under general supervision, assists physician and physician assistant and staff members in performing optimal ambulatory health care to patients; stocks and maintains exam rooms and nurses stations; assists with clinical and clerical duties.
CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIESMay include any and/or all of the following:
1. Prepares patients for clinic visit by obtaining initial information and vital signs; assists with exams, tests, and special procedures as directed; may be required to collect! urine, provide wound care and give immunizations and medicati! ons under the direction of provider.
2. Prepares and organizes module; inspects exam rooms for cleanliness and equipment condition; maintains sample medication closet; stocks and maintains rooms and nurseâs stations with adequate supplies.
3. Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms.
4. Checks patients' medical records for pertinent data; reviews and maintains current patient information/demographic data, social history, medication record, and pertinent medical history from the patient questionnaire while interviewing the patient in appropriate sections of the record only for the medical assistantâs level of access.
5. Prepares patient charts; ensures all charts are complete.
6. Requests previous medical records and information from appropriate sources; completes requests for confidential transfer of medical records and information.
7. Schedules appointments and tests; enters orders in the electronic health record according to orders from and at! the direction of provider; pre-certifies patients for insurance coverage; sets up referral contacts; reviews all requisitions (labs and x-rays) for completeness.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and experience equivalent to:
High school diploma or equivalent, in addition to graduation from a recognized Medical Assistant Program; supplemented with one (1) year previous! medical experience (an externship at SLU may be substituted for one ye! ar experience); current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Current certification or registration as a medical assistant is preferred.
