This allows our physicians to manage the care of their patients with less of the outside intervention that is currently prevalent in the managed care industry.
Esse Health is currently looking for a Telephone Triage Nurse for our Pediatric Office. The Telephone Triage Nurse triages patient questions/problems; consults with provider(s) and returns calls. Also provides expert professional nursing care on an as needed basis.
Requirements Formal training which will probably be indicated by a graduation certificate from an accredited RN or LPN school of nursing; current nursing license; dedication to patient satisfaction; ability to communicate effectively; and ability to work compatibly with physicians and other staff members.
1.Assess and triage phone calls from patients by conferring with physician (s) and/or following established protocol and returning patient phone calls. Obtain complete history of illness including information regarding symptoms and length of illness. Recognize abnormal versus normal conditions. Assess severity of problem and if appointment to see physician is necessary. Provide advice using sound nursing judgment and effective communication skills. Respond appropriately to potential emergency situations.
2.Perform follow up appropriately and in a timely manner.
3.Educate and counsel patients over the telephone. Instruct in home care. Listen to patients and/or concerned parents and provide reassurance.
4.Document in EMR system clearly, consistently and in a timely manner.
5.Obtain lab and x-ray results as needed and communicate to provider. Explain lab and x-ray results to patient(s).
6.Contact pharmacy to order new and refill prescriptions, per physician(s) protocol book; notify patient(s)/parents.
7.Communicate on a regular basis with provider(s) to keep provider(s) informed on any changes in patients’/parents’ concerns and to maximize role of liaison between patient and provider; assist in the development and/or revision of written telephone call back with protocol and procedure.
8.Work with supervisor and co-workers, including receptionists and medical assistant, to ensure coordination of effort regarding patient care and integration of the triage function into the total operations of the department. Attend and participate in departmental meetings.
9.Perform medical assisting duties as needed, which include but are not limited to: directing patients to exam rooms, preparing for examinations and other procedures, preparing and administering medications for injections, collecting specimens for lab, setting up and stocking exam rooms, cleaning equipment and rooms between procedures, and performing procedures such as vision and hearing tests, venipunctures, inhalation treatments, hemoglobin tests, glucometer checks and EKG’s.
10.Follow policies for injection control in handling and disposing of infections/hazardous waste materials.
11.Demonstrate efficient management of time and resources.
