The Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for the direction and supervision of nursing staff and activities to maintain consistency and efficiency in meeting departmental goals and objectives. He or she is responsible for making administrative decisions based on long-term care policies and nursing standards and ensures compliance with standards of nursing practice to promote optimal health care delivery. He or she de! monstrates knowledge of the gerontological and non-gerontologi! cal patient’s physical, social, emotional, and psychological needs based on the health care required.
The ideal candidate has a degree in Nursing from an accredited institution and possesses a current unencumbered license as a registered nurse. In addition, he or she has three to four years of recent nursing experience during which administrative and supervisory competency has been demonstrated, with a minimum of three years of management experience preferred. He or she can direct and coordinate the activities of others, provide a motivating influence on subordinates and peers, and take ownership in management decisions. Effective oral and written skills, empathy and the ability to listen, good time management skills, and professional dress, speech, and behavior are all assets for this position.
