Lab Processor- ER (Full Time)
Shift: Evenings and Nights

Lab Processor- Micro (Part Time: 48hrs/ 2 ! weeks)
Shift: Evenings and every other Saturday
Job Summary
The lab processor position is one of flexibility and accountability. The processor is responsible for the handling of specimens coming into the lab, answers phones, directs/and assists as a phlebotomist when the need arises, and assists Medical Technologists as applicable with lab testing. This position requires the person to be able to move in and out of different duties as the shift requires and keep things going smoothly. It requires both leadership and teamwork abilities; the person must be open minded and up to daily challenges.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Process lab specimens brought into the lab (documents any specimen notes such as hemolysis and lipemia as applicable into LIS); Distribute acceptable specimens to clinical laboratory for testing; Prepare and send out specimens to reference labs.
Stock processing area with supplies. Order ! send out supplies.
Answer phone calls.
Distr! ibute specimens to the correct areas of the lab.
Load specimens onto lab instruments, as applicable.
Other duties as assigned for the smooth functioning of the lab
Main Lab Processor Job Duties:
Direct the phlebotomy staff
Page for STATS
Send staffing to nursing homes (processor may go if time allows)
Pick up specimens on floors already drawn (processor should pick up specimens as time allows)
Assist with outpatient draws.
Assist with phlebotomy on the floor:
Go out on floor â" if < 3 phlebotomists per shift
Go out to get missed sticks on hard to draw patients
Help cover weekends for phlebotomy staff as necessary
Assist with collection and processing of bone marrows.
Specimen packaging and shipping (maintains current training requirements)
ER Lab Processor Job Duties:
Waived and Moderate Complexity testing (urine/serum pre! gnancy, mono, Criterion urine analyzer, Strep A, occult blood, rapid influenza A/B, etc.); Performs Quality Control tests with each test; reports results promptly, as available, to nursing staff or physician
Breath Alcohol collection and testing (maintains current certification)
DOT drug screen collection (maintains current certification)
Microbiology Processor Job Duties:
Inoculates body fluids, exudates, skin scrapings, autopsy, and surgical specimens according to departmental policy
Performs gram staining, as applicable, according to departmental policies
Prepares parasitology specimens according to departmental policies
Waived and Moderate Complexity testing(Strep A, occult blood, etc.); Performs Quality Control tests with each test; reports results promptly, as available, to nursing staff or physician
Qualifications/Requirements
Minimum Requirements â" High School Graduate
Pref! erred Requirements â" AA or BS degree in Science related field. Phlebo! tomy experience preferred.
Must be able to read, write and speak English.
