The APRN is responsible and accountable for quality care of patients by utilizing the nursing process as defined for advanced practice nurses ! in the Missouri Nurse Practice Act.

Provides direct patient care as follows:
Obtains patient histories.

Performs physical assessments pertinent to patient’s chief complaint.

Evaluates assessment data and established diagnoses.

Orders and evaluates appropriate diagnostic studies.

Performs and monitors therapeutic procedures.

Assesses and/or manages follow-up plans.

Records and documents assessment data, interventions, results, and patient outcomes.

Educates patients and/or families in order to promote wellness, prevent health problems, maintain current health and intervene in acute or chronic illness.

Makes hospital rounds in association with physician if applicable.

Stays current on all patient charts, billing, dictation on a daily basis in the clinic and hospital, where required.

Collaborates with nurses and nurse administration to implement and evaluate patient ! care delivery in the clinic and hospital.

Facilitates! and implements systems which promote and maintain effective communication and collaboration with inter/intra hospital physicians, nurses and other members of the health care team.

Maintains appropriate records and documentation of clinical and educational activities.

Demonstrates ability to work effectively with patients, families, and with professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care.

Supervises clinical activities of ancillary team members.

Recognizes and uses appropriate channels to communicate stressful patient care/performance situations that arise with physicians, families and other staff members.

Works with the Collaborating Physician(s) regarding Quality Improvement activities. Contributes to development of new ideas to benefit department, hospital, and/or staff.

Acts as a role model and in selected cases, precepting advance practice nurses.

Participants in activities necessary to annu! al review.

Documents continuing competency in the areas of medical diagnoses, therapeutics, invasive procedures and management of the patient as well as required certifications.

Serves on departmental and interdisciplinary committees as required.

Performs other duties as determined by the Collaborative Physician(s).

Qualifications/Requirements

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Certificate of Recognition to practice as a APRN as required by the Missouri State Board of Nursing. (Note: Recognition by the State Board of Nursing as a Graduate APRN is acceptable until such time that successful completion of certificate has been achieved.)

A Master of Science Degree in nursing, encompassing specialized classroom and experiential learning as a APRN.

Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice. Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and manag! ement of acute and chronic patient/family problems.

Substantia! l interpersonal skills necessary to instruct patients and their families and to collaborate with health team members.

Certified in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

Collaborates with nurses and nurse administration to implement and evaluate patient care delivery in the clinic and hospital.

Must be able to read, write and speak English.
