Schedule and Benefits
Schedule : Varies, required to rotate days/nights (80 hours/bi-weekly (occasional overtime); 8-12 hour shifts. Required to work holidays and weekends

Minimum Qualifications
License/Certification Requirements : Active, Unrestricted RN License from any state, BLS, ACLS and PALS
Education Requirements : Bachelor of Science degree or an Associate of Applied Science degree as a Registered Nurse â€" MAY NOT BE A NEW GRAD
Experience Requirements : Minimum 24 months full-time experience (3,600 hours) in an emergency room as a practicing registered nurse in the last three years
Security Requirements : must be able to pass a government background check

Specific Tasks

  • The skills/knowledge/tasks listed below apply to all HCPs. Knowledge of interpersonal relationships and the ability to maintain composure and react appropriately while relating to patients and families; to manage distraught,irritable, unreasonable or angry individuals; and to maintain positive rapport with all individuals involved in-patientcare ! is required.
  • Ability to react with alertness and skill in any emergency situation, e.g., cardiac or respiratory arrest, hemorrhage,
shock, severe physical trauma and psychiatric reaction. Serves as member of the resuscitation team.
  • Assess patient’s conditions for potential or life-threatening crises. Distinguish between normal and abnormal
physical findings (from physical assessment, vital signs assessment, fluid and electrolyte balance). Plan, implement,
evaluate and document appropriate nursing care.
  • Verify and annotates all physicians’ order written during the shift. Advise attending physician of patient
changes in a timely manner.
  • Obtain patient history and pertinent family history.
  • Develop, implement, and document plan of care and care given in patient's clinical record.
  • . Utilize appropriate nursing personnel to assist in delivery of care when indicated (LPN's/pa! raprofessionals).
  • Transcribe and/or verify transcription of ph! ysician orders.
  • Carry out prescribed physician orders and document in patient medical record.
  • Communicate pertinent patient data to charge nurse and/or physician as appropriate,
  • Reassess patient's condition and revise plan of care based on identified nursing problems,
  • Possess knowledge of the pharmacology of most commonly used emergency drugs, anticipated results, usual
dosages, and their location on crash cart,
  • Administer medications by all routes as ordered by physician to include IV, IM, PO, SQ, SL, NG.
  • Assess and document patient response to medications administered.
  • Instruct patient/family regarding prescribed medications/therapies and surgical/diagnostic procedures that must
be accomplished.
  • In the absence of respiratory therapy support, administer and evaluate and document inhalation therapy
treatments, with knowledge of medications utilized in this treatm! ent and reactions.
  • Be able to interpret cardiac rhythms and their implications (Critical Care Unit, Emergency Room, Ward 5C).
  • Assess patient/family knowledge level, implement plan of instructions and record patient/family demonstrated
level of understanding.
  • Operate defibrillator, EKG machine, cardiac monitor and telemetry units and other medical equipment.
  • Care for patients with mechanical ventilators (Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Room, and Newborn). Start,
monitor and maintain IV lines.
  • Obtain specimen samples using venipuncture, urinary catheters, central lines, from NGT and interpret pertinent
lab values and notify physician of abnormal findings.
  • Use electronic thermometers and infusion pumps.
  • Participate in Discharge Planning as appropriate.
  • Provide nursing care to a group of patients with other individuals assisting him/her, which may include maki! ng
patient care assignments.
  • Be able to initiat! e life saving measures in the absence of a physician.
  • Identify impending or existing emotional or psychiatric crisis and provide appropriate intervention.
  • Care for patients with peripheral inserted central Broviac, Port-a-Cath, or Hickman catheters, to include
dressing changes, blood drawing, and drug administration dressing changes, blood drawing, and drug administration
  • Provide nursing care and monitoring of patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
  • Provide nursing care and monitoring of patients admitted to the Telemetry Service. Recognize arrhythmias
and respond with appropriate interventions.
  • The HCP shall be responsible for medical oversight, assistance and guidance to PA or NP students, special
force’s members and medical students on rotations in the clinic. The HCP shall be required to treat patients from
other provider panels.
  • Contractor personnel ! shall attend all and take all training prescribed for personnel as required by GLWACH.
Training shall be part of the workday. The HCP shall perform Clinical Preceptor duties as needed to medical
students, members of the special forces, physician assistants or other staff in a training status at GLWACH.
  • Quality Control/Assurance. The HCP is required to follow current Quality Control/Assurance plans in place
at the medical facility in the performance of this contract. The HCP’s work is periodically reviewed for
effectiveness and quality assurance by a government or military ER RN.
  • Safety. Contractor personnel shall comply with all installation safety and fire prevention regulations. Copies
of these regulations are on file in the medical activity safety office or with the COR. The Contractor and HCP shall
be cognizant of and observe all requirements for handling and storing combustible supplies and materi! als, and daily
disposal of combu
  • GLWACH is part of the! Department of Defense HMO program called Tricare and as such, the Contractor
staff shall be required to adhere to all Tricare rules. Information on the Tricare program may be obtained at
www.tricare.osd.mil.
  • The HCPs under this contract are considered key personnel and mission essential. This means the providers
shall make every attempt to be at work on time and work their assigned shift regardless of inclement weather
conditions or other circumstances. Some staff may be granted leave or a few extra hours before having to report to
work during inclement weather but such leave or delayed reporting does not apply to providers under this contract.
