Location: Chesterfield Missouri

Description: St. Luke's Hospital - Missouri is in need of Patient Care Tech-Neuroscience Per Diem right now, this vacancy will be placed in Missouri. Summary: Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse, the Patient Care Technician is responsible for performing non-licensed ! patient care accordance with established Nursing Standards and Hospital Policies. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values. Principle Accountabilities: % Of Time Spent

1.Performs general, non-licensed respiratory procedures: (5%)
a.oximetry spot checks
b.oxygen set-ups, tank exchange

2.Assist patients with mobility needs: (20%)
a.Patient transfers
b.turn and reposition in bed
c.maintain a clean and safe room environment
d.assist patient to bathroom
e.transport patients to tests or other ho! spital locations

3.Performs other patient care activi! ties to include, but not limited to: (48%)
a.simple skin care
b.oral hygiene
c.partial bath
d.complete bath
e.shaving
f.bed making (unoccupied and occupied)
g.foley care and emptying and recording output from foley catheters
h.providing bedpan or urinal as needed
i.weigh patients
j.application and reapplication of SCD’s, TED hose, Aqua K pads, cold packs k. pass trays, water, juice and snacks
l.administer ice chips*
m.feed patients n. assist with menu pick up/delivery and food cart transfer as needed
o.applying restraints (bed alarms) as directed
p.I&O
q.obtain vital signs (temp, pulse, respirations, blood pressure)
r.emptying drains and ostomy bags, recording output
s.non sterile dressing changes
t.after death care u. pain assessment screening
v.uretheral catherization
w.venipuncture
x.blood sugar monitoring

4.Maintains CPR status (1%)

5.Performs 12 Lead ECG (5%)
6.Performs procedures related to specimen collection (15%)
a.sputum, urine, stool

7.Takes inventory of supplies and equipment and restocks as necessary (1%)

8. Responds to STAT

9. Transports supplies, mail , labs etc

10. Perform other work duties as assigned (4%)

11. Documents patient information as directed (1%)

Total: 100%

Required Experience:
PCT experience required.

1.Must have one of the following:
a.Completed fundamentals clinical at least by 90 days of employment.
b.Have previous documented experience as a nurse assistant, EMT, or Surgical Tech in the past 3 years.
c.CNA certification.
d.Are awaiting successful completion of licensure examination (GN and GPN)
e.Completed a professional or practical nursing program outside of the US and are awaiting license examination in the US.
f.Have completed an Unlicensed Assistive Personnel program in Mi! ssouri in the last 3 years. OR
g.Must be able to complete the requi! red classroom and clinical education within 90 days of start date.

2.Successful completion of orientation classes as deemed by education.

3.Successful completion of the “Application Profile” questions regarding experiences at work/school, problem solving and work situations.

4.Verbal and cognitive ability.

5.May be required to rotate shifts because of hospital’s 24 hour per day 7 days a week operation. May be required to work on other patient care units as needed.

6.Able to address specific age related needs of the patient. Nursing divisions may provide care to neonates/infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric adults.

7.Basic Life Support completion within 3 months of hire.

JOB DUTIES REQUIRE YEARLY VALIDATION FOR COMPETENCY and YEARLY COMPLETION OF HOSPITAL SAFETY PROGRAM. PARTICIPATION IN A BLS CLASS IS REQUIRED EVERY TWO YEARS.

Required Education:
High school diploma or e! quivalent.

Compensation:Working Conditions:
Employee is required to sit occasionally, stand continuously, and walk frequently. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) medium (21-50 lbs.) and heavy (50 lbs. +) load frequently. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs. with assistance. Employee is frequently required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. For repetitive action, employee is required to use both hands for simple grasping and pushing/pulling. Employee is occasionally exposed to electrical hazards and CRT terminal work. Employee is occasionally exposed to blood borne pathogens.

Occasionally: 1-33%, Frequently: 34-66%, Continuously: 67-100%

The most significant of duties are included but this does not exclude occasional work assignments not mentioned or developmental duties.

Job Relationships: Me! mber of a comprehensive healthcare team, including other health care pr! oviders, the patient, the patients family and significant others.

Takes direction from: Head Nurse, AHN, Registered Professional Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse.
