As the leading provider of comprehensive rehabilitation service! s in the St. Louis area, SSM Rehabilitation Hospital delivers the specialized care and advanced treatment that enables individuals with stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurological disorders, amputation, joint replacement and other orthopedic trauma, and general medical rehabilitation needs, to rebuild their lives.

Directs assigned nursing personnel, serving as a resource person and consultant. Provides and oversees nursing care, implementing hospital and departmental philosophy and objectives. Maintains approved standards of patient care, collaborating with appropriate persons for continuity of care under the guidance of the Director of Nursing.

Minimum Education & Experience (Including Licenses)
Education: Graduation from School of Professional Nursing required.

BSN or enrollment in a BSN program preferred.

Current and valid state licensure as a Registered Nurse required.

CRRN required if eligible.

! Responsibilities

Assures application of the nursing ! process from admission through discharge for patients under their jurisdiction by the nursing staff according to job category through observation and review of documentation.

Oversees the implementation of approved policies and practices by nursing staff, correcting problems and re-educating as the need arises.

Implements and maintains systems of care delivery to assure the highest quality of nursing care in a coordinated and continuous fashion.

Monitors the quality of nursing care delivered by reviewing documentation, meeting with patients and/or families, and investigating all practice concerns. Ensures the completion of quality improvement activities and implements changes in patient care as indicated by trends in the data.

Guides the staff in the use of the nursing process and in the development and utilization of the interdisciplinary care plan for all patients. Assesses and makes changes to the nursing and interdisciplinary care pla! n to enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of patients.

Assures that all staff are accountable for documenting care provided, patient family teaching, and discharge planning on patient to whom they are assigned.

Makes appropriate judgments regarding the necessity for obtaining medical care when the house medical staff is not present.

Provides needed materials for the patient teaching process and assists nursing personnel with patient teaching.

Plans staffing patterns and assignments for the nursing shift considering patient needs via patient classification and staff availability. Maintains and submits required records and reports.

Collaborates with the Director of Nursing to ensure continuity of care over twenty-four hours.

Monitors productivity of all staff and makes suggestions for prioritizing and delegating to enhance patient care.

Assists in the budgetary process and in monitoring charges and supply usage! of the units.

Conducts ongoing formal and informal clinical t! eaching of nursing staff members. Cooperates in interviewing prospective staff and in assisting as necessary either with orientation or with supervising orientation.

Evaluates performance of professional and non-licenses personnel. Makes recommendations for promotion and termination and resolves disciplinary problems when necessary, documenting personnel counseling sessions in a timely manner.

Acts as a leader and contributes to the smooth functioning of the units by de-escalating crisis situations and by providing calm direction and reassurance to staff, other departments and families as needed. Reports any non-resolvable problems to the Director of Nursing

Performs other duties as requested.
