FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs the functions of a licensed practical nurse in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating all assigned patient care under the direction of a RN and in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary team.

2. The incumbent's assignment will predominantly involve the care of patients with acute medical-surgical needs with or without additional geriatric, rehab, palliative or long term medical needs.

3. The incumbent will be responsible for direct patient care, medicatio! n/IV administration, knowledge of equipment utilization and safety, patient/family education, documentation of patient care and coordinating the care for a group of patients.

4. The incumbent will participate in the unit and service line's performance improvement activities and will adhere to established policies of Nursing, and the Medical Center.

5. The incumbent observes patients rights and provides care with humanism, respect and dignity. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Citizen of the United States. Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or [accredited by] the National League for Nursing [Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)] at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Must be proficient in spoken and written English .

Assignments of licensed practical and vocational nurses at all grade levels, including entry grade levels, are dependent upon the validation of compe! tence to perform clinical procedures and certification of such competen! cies via either educational programs or on-the-job training. The candidateÂ's qualifications must clearly demonstrate the level of competence required for the grade. In addition to the basic requirements stated above, the following qualification criteria must be met for each grade:

Education/Experience Requirements:
GS-3. None beyond the basic requirements

GS-4. Six months of qualifying experience as an LPN or LVN; or Graduation from an approved school and one year of experience that involved nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures; or Graduation from an approved school of at least 24 months duration.

GS-5. Completion of at least 1 year of qualifying experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent.

Additional Requirements:
1. IV certifica! tion required.

2. Medical/ surgical experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:
The Physical requirements of this position include the following tasks which may be performed intermittently: lifting of up to 50 lbs. (3 hours), sitting (2 hours), standing (4 hours), walking (8 hours), climbing (1 hour), kneeling (3 hours), bending/stooping (3 hours), twisting (2 hours), pushing/pulling (6 hours), simple grasping (8 hours), fine manipulation (8 hours), reaching above the shoulder (4 hours), and operating machinery (8 hours).
